"SPEAK UP FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES, FOR THE RIGHTS OF ALL WHO ARE DESTITUTE. SPEAK UP AND JUDGE FAIRLY; DEFEND THE CAUSE OF THE POOR AND NEEDY." PROVERBS 31:8-9
The vision for One Heart Collective started my first Christmas back in America after living in Ethiopia. As I saw the staggering amount of money spent shopping for more “stuff," my heart broke. I thought of the families we serve in Ethiopia who are barely able to feed their children, provide shelter, or meet their most basic needs. I ached for the children sacrificed daily to feed their families: sold as prostitutes, enslaved, or trafficked. I was certain God was calling me to become a voice for them somehow.
I knew of a number of projects, artisan groups, and ministries using sustainable income initiatives to empower individuals to make a living: working to reduce the poverty leading to these life threatening circumstances. Their greatest need, however, was a place to market their goods.
I decided to create a global boutique, first online, an then an actual "brick and mortar" retail location, where people could purchase these handcrafted items as gifts for families and friends, with the sales benefiting the individuals, families, and ministries where each product was from. Thus One Heart Collective was born.
I soon realized a critical piece of making this successful was to help everyone understand the critical role they play in changing lives around the world.
With over $700 billion spent every year on things like bottled water, eating out, pet food, vacations, and more, can you imagine the impact we could make as we become more purposeful of how we spend our money and where? When I think of how many children could be saved from a life of slavery or human trafficking, simply because someone chooses to shop with us, I am amazed. We can use our purchasing power to change peoples lives, one product at a time.
By shopping at our store or on our website, hosting a trunk show, setting up a table at a church or event, and sharing our project with others, you too, can become a voice for the voiceless: impacting the lives of others all over the world. Will you join this cause?
Love,
Terina Dutton
